Our Story
The Stoneacre family is a synergy of good food, good drinks and good company. After becoming best friends while working at a popular Rhode Island eatery, founders, Christopher Bender and David Crowell went on to immerse themselves in the world of hospitality — taking jobs in New England and New York City — before returning to their roots in Newport to create Stoneacre. Soon after, David enjoyed a rom-com reminiscent series of chance meetings and missed encounters with Massachusetts native, Christine Bevilacqua before the two finally ran into each other again on a fated New Years Eve of 2013. Christine began consulting on private events for Stoneacre in 2017 and, in 2018, the couple married at Stoneacre Brasserie.
Christopher Bender found his leading lady, Nicole Canning, during her visits home to her native Newport from living abroad. Casual run-ins at the restaurant became a food-fueled love story, and upon moving back to Newport full-time the two reconnected for good. Nicole grew up in her grandmother’s bed & breakfast, which her nana owned & operated for over 35 years. As Director of Guest Services for the Chart House Inn, Nicole brings her warmth & lifelong passion for hospitality to each guest interaction.
Together, this foursome of owners continues to evolve the Stoneacre name, sharing their passion and talents
with the town they love to call ‘home.’
